Anthony asked:

I have a 80 gallon saltwater aquarium FOWLR, with only a yellow head moray and a small damselfish. Yet the water is always dirty, obviously my worthless Maryland magnum 350 canister filter doesn’t do the work. My stand doesnt have room underneath for a sump and a protein skimmer so I cant get one. So I look to canister filters? What is the best for a 80 gallon and can support puffers, and lion fish, and triggerfish, and other big fish that I cant have now because they die of bad water condition.( which they have, no matter how often I make water changes)

What do you think of a Hagen FLUVAL FX5 Canister Fish Aquarium Filter?
Or 2 Fluval 405 A216 340 GPH Canister Filter?
Which ever is beater.

I want to stock up my tank a bit more to replace the triggerfish. I’ve been looking at marine bettas, gold line groupers, and possibly filefish. I like boxfish and cowfish but heard that they can release deadly toxins and want to know how big of an issue that may become. I also want to get a starfish. Any suggestions, advice, information is appreciated! Thanks so much!

I will not be able to upgrade for 10 months due to money issues BUT after that period I WILL be able to buy a much larger aquarium.

My Water parameters are great!

the Nitrites are 0,
the Nitrates are 0,
the Ammonia is 0,
the pH is 8.3,

I have an over sized external filter, a good protein skimmer, and lots of live rock.
I do a 10-25% water change every week and sift the sand every day and clean the glass every other day, I clean the filter once a month, and feed a very varied diet.

Is this OK?

Please, no nasty comments or they will be reported, Please leave helpful comments.
Thanks very much!

Mitch asked:

im a going to be purchasing a 55 gallon saltwater tank from someone off craigslist in the next couple days. This will be my first saltwater tank and was wondering what kind of fish will be able to live in it and will get along with each other.

Here is a list of some fish i like clownfish, Flame angel, snowflake eel, lionfish, Triggerfish,copperband butterfly, longnose hawkfish, singapore angelfish, koran angelfish. Also open to suggestions. will any of these go together i really like the koran angelfish and the snowflake eel.

Thanks Mitch
alright all good info so far so if i wanted to go with the more aggressive fish i could do the maroon clown and the dwarf lionfish is there any other fish that are compatible with these two and would 2 be about all i could have with that size tank. if i wanted to go with the peaceful fish how many could i put and i really like the flame angel and the hawkfish what else could go with these and what kind of clowns wouldnt bully these guys
sorry i didnt see the two clowns you listed for the peaceful fish. im not a fan of the goby or the grammas what else is there that could go with the hawk fish and the flame angel. also if i get the snowflake eel is that all that could go in the tank?

Shada girl asked:

1. Elena has bought 320 tropical fish for a museum display. She bought 7 times as many triggerfish as parrotfish. How many of each type of fish did she buy? Write a system of equations to model the problem if x represents the number of parrotfish Elena bought, and y represents the number of triggerfish she bought.
x + 7y = 320
y = 7x

      x + y = 7
y = 320x

      x + y = 320
y = 7x

      x  y = 320
y = 7x

2. Elena has bought 320 tropical fish for a museum display. She bought 7 times as many triggerfish as parrotfish. How many of each type of fish did she buy?
280 parrotfish, 40 triggerfish

      180 parrotfish, 140 triggerfish

      120 parrotfish, 200 triggerfish

      40 parrotfish, 280 triggerfish

3. Anita and Joelle bowl together, and their combined total scores for one game was 425 points. Anita’s score was 40 less than twice Joelle’s. What were their scores? Write a system of equations to model the problem if x represents Joelle’s score, and y represents Anita’s score.
x + y = 425
y = 2x  40

      x + y = 425
y = 2x + 40

      x  y = 425
y = 2x  40

      x + y = 40
y = 2x  425

4. Anita and Joelle bowl together, and their combined total scores for one game was 425 points. Anita’s score was 40 less than twice Joelle’s. What were their scores?
Joelle: 270, Anita: 155

      Joelle: 180, Anita: 245

      Joelle: 140, Anita: 285

      Joelle: 155, Anita: 270

5. In a single weekend, 840 people visited a local zoo. The number of people who visited on Saturday was 30 more than twice the number of people who visited the zoo on Sunday. How many visitors did the zoo have on each day?
Saturday: 430 visitors
Sunday: 410 visitors

      Saturday: 570 visitors
Sunday: 270 visitors

      Saturday: 510 visitors
Sunday: 330 visitors

      Saturday: 610 visitors
Sunday: 230 visitors
