Saltwater livestock question?

triggerfish
lobo2334 asked:

I’ve got a 75 gal tank that currently has 2 percula clown fish, 2 blue-green chromis, and 1 onespot rabbitfish. I would like to get one more fish, preferably on the larger side, with alot of personality. I was considering the Humu Humu Triggerfish. I understand that these fish can be a hit or miss and can be well behaved and then become nightmares when they grow older. Are their any other fish similar in personality and size to the Humu Humu that may not be so aggressive? Or other triggerfish that are “better behaved” (and I say this lightly) than the Humu Humu? Thanks.
O yeah I was also looking at a lemon peel angel fish or a coral beauty angel fish. Would I be able to have one of the angel fish and the triggerfish? Or would I be overstocking at that point?

You have a fairly large tank from my point of view. Both of those fig should do just fine in your tank as long as you have decent filtration.

Maybe you don’t want them but have you ever thought about range I know those are great fish a yellow tang or a blue regal tang would be nice.

Good luck on stock your tank!

that would not be overstocking.lemonpeels have a poor survival record.coralbeauties are a better bet.a tiny 1″ picasso trigger(huma)might be ok,for a while.i’m inclined to recommend NO.keep triggers with groupers, eels, lions, snappers ect.they can take nasty bites out of things.get a flame angel and a tang,or butterflyfish.

The huma huma will become more aggressive as he grows older.
The pinktail trigger is less agreesive and can be kept with more peacefull tankmates. The sargassum and crosshatch might also be an option but they may not be as peacefull as the pinktail. You will have to do more research. You can go to and look up fish, they will describe what they have. They also have a compatibility chart. I read about this triggers in a book, that site may say something different. Is a good idea to have another tank set up just in case you get fish that are not compatable.
Usually trigger fishes will eventually pick on smaller fishes, but that might depend on the trigger. The angel fishes you mentioned are dwarf angels and only get so big. Koran and emperor are nice speciments. As far as overstocking goes, it depends on the size of your sump/filter. I have a 110 gal and I converted a 30 gal to my sump witch is equvelant to a 300-350 gal tank, so I can stock my tank quite a bit.
