A few things to understand:

if you honestly want that fish to live, then id have a 125+ gallon tank to accomodate the adult fish ready within 3 weeks, the sooner the better. the actual rate of growth varies, some people have had triggers that have grown very slowly, others have grown an inch and a half in a month! seeing as you have no idea what growth pattern your trigger will take, I suggest you play it safe and get the biggest tank possible ASAP.

Your LFS wants you to buy it so they get your $30. You can't just keep a huge growing fish in a small tank, then sell it. First of all, that's just unhealthy for it. Secondly, most places won't buy it from you, and if they do, it's for $5 store credit. Sorry, but you can't keep any triggers in that 29 gallon.
