Iliana G asked:
I know that they must be fed carnivorous foods about three times a day, because they are heavy eaters–so would going a couple of days without food be detrimental?
And YES, believe it or not, 3 times a day IS the right amount to feed them. This is coming from many reliable saltwater books and resources. Don’t answer this question unless you actually know something about triggerfish.

Sometimes mine will go a few days and not even look at food. What you really want to keep in mind here, first is he new to the tank? Give him a few days, eventually he will eat. Second, look him over carefully. be sure you do not see his stomach or abdomen sinking in. Also, be sure all your snails and shrimp (if you have any) are accounted for.
Do you know what the store was feeding him? If he was tank raised he may eat nothing but a meat based flake or pellets. (That was the original problem I had) He eventually got used to squid, snails, octopus, scallops, fish, shrimp and crabs that I bought at the store.
See if he will eat pellets if you have them.
