PLEASE HELP ME WITH THESE PROBLEMS….IM STUCK!!
I would really appriciate it! :]
1. Elena has bought 320 tropical fish for a museum display. She bought 7 times as many triggerfish as parrotfish. How many of each type of fish did she buy? Write a system of equations to model the problem if x represents the number of parrotfish Elena bought, and y represents the number of triggerfish she bought.
(Points: 1)
a. x + 7y = 320
y = 7x
b. x + y = 7
y = 320x
c. x + y = 320
y = 7x
d. x y = 320
y = 7x
2. Elena has bought 320 tropical fish for a museum display. She bought 7 times as many triggerfish as parrotfish. How many of each type of fish did she buy?
(Points: 1)
a. 280 parrotfish, 40 triggerfish
b. 180 parrotfish, 140 triggerfish
c. 120 parrotfish, 200 triggerfish
d. 40 parrotfish, 280 triggerfish
3. Anita and Joelle bowl together, and their combined total scores for one game was 425 points. Anita’s score was 40 less than twice Joelle’s. What were their scores? Write a system of equations to model the problem if x represents Joelle’s score, and y represents Anita’s score.
(Points: 1)
a. x + y = 425
y = 2x 40
b. x + y = 425
y = 2x + 40
c. x y = 425
y = 2x 40
d. x + y = 40
y = 2x 425
4. Anita and Joelle bowl together, and their combined total scores for one game was 425 points. Anita’s score was 40 less than twice Joelle’s. What were their scores?
(Points: 1)
a. Joelle: 270, Anita: 155
b. Joelle: 180, Anita: 245
c. Joelle: 140, Anita: 285
d. Joelle: 155, Anita: 270
5. In a single weekend, 840 people visited a local zoo. The number of people who visited on Saturday was 30 more than twice the number of people who visited the zoo on Sunday. How many visitors did the zoo have on each day?
(Points: 1)
a. Saturday: 430 visitors
Sunday: 410 visitors
b. Saturday: 570 visitors
Sunday: 270 visitors
c. Saturday: 510 visitors
Sunday: 330 visitors
d. Saturday: 610 visitors
Sunday: 230 visitors

ok, #1- we know she bought x number of parotfish. we also know that she bought 7 times as many triggerfish. we also know that altogether she bought 320 fish. now you have to add x and y to get 320. so that means x+ (now we know that there are 7 times more, so we know it must be 7y) so, x+7y=320 (the total right?). Now, since you are trying to get y by itself, you have to subtract the x from both sides, and divide by seven on both sides.
#2- ok, you have the equation. Now what you have to do is take x+7y=320. First you make x zero and then get y by itself. Then you make y zero and get x by itself.
#3- we know the total score was 425. We know that ther are to players. So we can make an equation. x+y=425. We also know that Anita’s score (y) was 40 less than 2Joel’s (x). now we put that into an equation. 2x-40=y. now, since it equals y, we can plug in 2x-40=y in to the other equation so that it looks like this- x+(2x-40)=425. Then you just solve it for x and you’ll have joel’s. Then you just take that number and subtract it from 425 to get what Anita’s is.
#5- we know the total. 840. and we know it was 2 days, so.. x+y=840. now, let’s let the # of people on sunday be x and on saturday be y. so, it’s going to be x+ (there was +30 more people) x+30=y but it was also 2 times as many y as x so…2x+30=y. now you can take the original equation (x+y=840) you plug in 2x+30=y into the original and solve!
